RAMANATHAPURAM: In view of ‘Bakrid' festival that falls on Wednesday, camels were bought from markets in Chennai and Andhra Pradesh and brought to Ramanathapuram for distribution of its meat to poor Muslims as ‘qurbani.'
Nazar, a resident, said that as many as seven camels were bought and they have been dispatched to a few villages in the district.
The animals attract many people as it is a rare sight for people, particularly children, of Ramanathapuram.
People show immense interest in knowing about camels. It was very rare to see camels in Ramanathapuram except in circus, said a student.
