Udhagamandalam: The government will go by the directions of the court, said Forest Minister N.Selvaraj when a question relating to the proposed acquisition of land to protect elephant corridors was asked at a press conference here on Saturday.
He said no new resorts had come up after the notification of the elephant corridor in the Bokkapuram area. A decision on the existing resorts would be taken after the court gives its verdict.
The government was according high priority to conservation.
On account of its efforts the population of tigers had increased significantly in the State, he added.
The merger of the Sigur and Singara ranges of the Nilgiris North division with the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve was under consideration.
Pointing out that in principle it had been decided to consider favourably a demand to open Sigur-Pudhupatti road near Mudumalai, he said that if it affected wildlife and hindered movement of elephants the decision would be re-considered.
He added that clearance for the road had to be obtained from the Central Government.
To a question on the proposed neutrino project at Theni, Mr.Selvaraj said that its implementation would be closely monitored.
