Pollachi: Officials of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve are trying out a new method to ensure drinking water for the wildlife in reserve forests.

At an outlay of Rs. 1.5 lakh, authorities have dug up 150-ft-deep bore well inside the reserve forests in Udumalpet. A solar-powered motor has been installed to pump water to it every day at a pre-set time. The
staff need to visit the place for occasional maintenance only.

The system is being tried out by the staff for the last three months under the guidance and direct supervision of Tirupur DFO, Rajkumar and Field Director H. Basuvaraju. The officials now plan to try the method at more areas in the sanctuary.
