TAMBARAM: Several fishes were found dead under mysterious circumstances in a lake formed in an abandoned quarry in Zamin Pallavaram on Monday morning. Residents living around the Katcheri Malai Kuttai on Dargah Road noticed the dead fishes floating on the surface of the lake, whose depth is over 150 ft. Though the lake was out of bounds for most people as it was risky, certain residents washed their clothes, vessels and even motorcycles every day. Groups of young men would try their hand at angling for fish. Early on Monday a group of women went to the lake and were shocked to find the dead fishes. As the news spread, hundreds of residents gathered at the spot. Information reached the Pallavaram Municipal officials who reached the spot. Officials said nearly three lorries took the dead fishes to the municipality's garbage dumping yard in Ganapathypuram. Officials said the cause of death was being ascertained.
