DINDIGUL: Owners of ‘jallikattu' bulls in nine villages in Sanarpatti and Natham blocks took out a rally here on Tuesday demanding withdrawal of fees Rs.500 a bull to take part in the taming of the bull event.
They said that the government had asked the ‘jallikattu' organisers to remit Rs.2 lakh for organising the event. It also advised the organisers to check the condition of bulls.
All bulls should be checked by the veterinary doctor before the event, the order insisted.
It also advised them to pay Rs.500 a bull who wished to take part in the event.
“We were ready to pay Rs.2 lakh and do medical check-up to these animals. But, it would be difficult for all bull owners to remit Rs.500 for the event.”
They appealed to the government to withdraw fees imposed on each and every bull.
Later, some representatives of ‘jallikattu' organisers handed over a petition to officers in the Collectorate as the Collector M. Vallalar was out of station.
Slogans
Earlier, owners of bulls from Thavasimadai, Kosavapatti, Ulagampatti, Paravaipatti, Kuttathu Avarampatti, Vellode, Pillavanaickenpatti and Natham Vadipatti congregated at the Collectorate with their colourfully decorated bulls and raised slogans.
After a strenuous walk of seven kilometres from Nagal Nagar to Collectorate, most of the bulls were completely tired.
Ulagampatti and Kosavapatti are popular villages in organising ‘jallikattu' .
