MADURAI: Persons who had not attained 21 years shall not participate in the ‘jallikattu' sport, said Collector C. Kamaraj.
Presiding over a meeting convened to address the ‘jallikattu' organisers and other officials, he said that the district administration would carry out the directives given by the Supreme Court. He appealed to the organisers and the police to ensure strict implementation.
At the meeting, Mr. Kamaraj said that ahead of Pongal, the ‘jallikattu' is being scheduled to be held from January 15 to 17 at different locations including Avaniapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur respectively. The organisers shall not permit any participant who had not attained 21 years. Similarly, all participating bulls shall be permitted only after they were certified as “fit” by the officials of the Animal Husbandry department.
Strict action
He appealed to the organisers to adhere to the rules and cooperate with the officials for smooth conduct. Any violation or deficiencies would not be ignored, but strict action would be initiated as per the law, he warned.
Superintendent of Police M. Manohar, officials from the Animal Husbandry, revenue, rural development, fire and rescue services and from the public health department participated in the meeting, a press release said.
