Lion dies in Nandankanan

BHUBANESWAR: A 20-year-old lion died in Nandankanan Zoological Park here on Friday morning. The animal was ill and suffering from liver tumor for the last few months, zoo sources said. 

"The usual life expectancy of lions is 18 to 20 years and the lion lived maximum of 20 years. His was suffering from liver tumor and old age related problems," said a senior zoo official. Head of veterinary pathology department OUAT, S K Panda, who conducted the postmortem of the lion said, "Profuse bleeding in the pretonary cavity due to liver tumor led to the death of the lion." 

After the death of the lion, 19 lions are left in the zoo, 17 of whom are above 16 years-old while the youngest among them is of six years.
