GULBARGA: Runi has done Gulbarga police headquarters proud by helping the police crack a theft case within an hour its being reported in Agricultural Layout here recently. For the record, Runi is a six-year-old female sniffer dog.

Hailing Runi's sniffing prowess, an investigation officer told `The Times Of India' that the complete credit of cracking the case goes to Runi.

On January 11, about 70 g of gold and Rs 69,000 went missing from the house of Sharanappa. A complaint was registered at Raghavendra Nagar police station, after which Runi was summoned to the house. After sniffing some places, Runi ran outside and stopped near a group of people gathered in front of the house. Runi, though seemed confused for a while, continued to bark at a boy in the group. The boy, Shivakumar, was none other than the son of Sharanappa.

During interrogation by the police, Shivakumar (20) confessed to the crime. Shivakumar said he and his friend Amith (20) committed the crime to repay the loan. According to the police, Shivakumar had borrowed money from many lenders to meet expenses borne out of lavish lifestyle. In the next 44 hours, the police recovered the stolen articles and cash from the duo.
